Ruvo di Puglia is a city in the Land of Bari, Apulia, on the Murge plateau. It is one of the major art cities of Puglia and among the key tourist stops in Puglia. It is part of the Alta Murgia national park.
Ruvo has an ancient history dating back to the Middle Paleolithic, with a flourishing as a polis of Magna Graecia and strategic importance in the Roman Empire. The city has undergone transformations over the centuries, maintaining a rich history and culture.
Ruvo has suffered much destruction and looting throughout its history, but has always maintained a rich culture and history, with periods of growth and prosperity under different dominations.
Ruvo experienced a long period of Carafa rule, followed by a struggle for freedom and progress. The city underwent transformations and experienced moments of growth and development, becoming an important cultural and economic center.
The city of Ruvo presents itself as an artistic and cultural city, full of food and wine and religious events, as well as hiking on the Ruvian Alta Murgia, among its large forests such as Scoparella, Cavallerizza and Polvino, in addition to the large presence of farms. Ruvese’s urban center is made up of the old town, with its squares, alleys, and winding streets, with a few small squares rising up between each glimpse. Buildings are constructed with limestone, common in Apulian areas, and volcanic stone for paving the main streets of the historic center.
