The historic center of Sarnano has perfectly preserved the medieval structure it has maintained for over 7 centuries, with the walls and the entrance under Porta Brunforte. It has the shape of the “castrum”, that is a fortified village that winds in concentric circles from the Piazza Alta. The historic center is full of small details.
Small and large treasures are contained in the Pinacoteca, with works from the church of Santa Maria di Piazza, the Deposition by Simone De Magistris, the Madonna adoring the Child by Vittore Crivelli and much more.
Fascinating and surrounded by greenery is the Via delle Cascate Perdute di Sarnano. It is an easy circular itinerary, about 6 km long with little difference in height, which winds around the historic center of Sarnano and touches three suggestive waterfalls: a walk suitable for everyone.
Every year, between mid-May and mid-June, the spectacle of spontaneous flowering returns on the Piani di Ragnòlo in Sarnano: a wonder of nature, where you can admire the splendid wild orchids of the Sibylline Mountains, but also gentians, buttercups, poppies, violets, daffodils and asphodels.
Sarnano is also a stage of the Franciscan Way of the Marca, considering that, according to legend, it was St. Francis of Assisi who drew what is now the coat of arms of the Municipality, with the Seraphim, the angel who appeared to the Saint when he received the stigmata. and that he stayed several times in the territory, between Sarnano, the Hermitage of Soffiano and the Convent of Roccabruna.
The market takes place on Thursday morning.
