More Info

The historic center of Sarnano has perfectly preserved the medieval layout it has maintained for more than 7 centuries, with its walls and entrance under Porta Brunforte. It has the shape of a “castrum,” or fortified village that winds in concentric circles from the Upper Square. The historic center is rich in small details.

Small and great treasures are held in the Pinacoteca, with works from the church of Santa Maria di Piazza, Simone De Magistris’ Deposition , Vittore Crivelli’s The Madonna Adoring the Child, and much more.

Fascinating and surrounded by greenery is the Via delle Cascate Perdute in Sarnano. This is an easy loop route, about 6 km long with little elevation gain, that winds around the historic center of Sarnano and touches three picturesque waterfalls-a walk suitable for everyone.

Every year, between mid-May and mid-June, the spectacle of spontaneous flowering returns to the Piani di Ragnòlo in Sarnano: a wonder of nature, where you can admire the splendid wild Orchids of the Sibillini Mountains, as well as gentians, buttercups, poppies, violets, daffodils and asphodels.

Sarnano is also a stop on the Franciscan Way of the Marches, considering that, according to legend, it was St. Francis of Assisi who drew what is now the coat of arms of the municipality, with the Seraphim, the angel who appeared to the saint when he received the stigmata and who stayed several times in the area, between Sarnano, the Hermitage of Soffiano and the Convent of Roccabruna.

A market is held on Thursday morning.
