More Info

Panicale is a picturesque walled village with extraordinary views of the Umbrian countryside, with the Nestore Valley to the south and Lake Trasimeno to the north. Among the winding cobblestone streets of the center, three squares peep out, set on different levels and connected by the central street.

The centerpiece of the town has always been the castle, one of the most important nationwide at the time, which withstood numerous assaults before capitulating in 1643 at the hands of the Florentine army.

Outside the walls is the Renaissance shrine of Our Lady of Mongiovino, nestled in a dreamlike forest.

One of the traditional end-of-summer events in the Trasimeno area is the “Grape Festival.” In truth, the editions of this festival dedicated to Bacchus number more than thirty-five, its origins going back intact to as far back as 1926. Today, the Grape Festival lasts for four days and includes “Cantine Aperte,” a food and wine itinerary that garners much acclaim among both locals and tourists.
