More Info
The village has maintained part of its medieval aspect, with a wall protected by the furrow of two rivers: the Metauro and the S. Antonio stream.
To visit, in the central Piazza Garibaldi, the Romanesque Collegiate Pieve, with beautiful Gothic windows and an ancient Byzantine icon depicting the Madonna delle Grazie. Inside the Collegiate there is a museum of sacred furnishings.
Not to be missed are: the Church of San Francesco with the adjoining museum, the Birthplace of Santa Veronica Giuliani, the Romanesque bridge over the Metauro river and the Monte di Pietà, founded in 1516 and embellished with a sandstone portal depicting Christ patient.
The Borgo is famous for the prized black summer truffle or scorzone; the schooner, a typical Marche salami cooked with sage and vinegar and the bostrengo, a typical winter dessert made with walnuts and raisins.
In the first ten days of July, the Santa Veronica Fair takes place, and, also in July, the Palio del Somaro, a tournament between the four districts of the country combined with games, food tastings and a particular festival dedicated to tagliatella.
