More Info

Morrovalle was probably founded in the Middle Ages in an area populated since remote antiquity. A cylindrical tufa monolith, dating as far back as prehistoric times, has been found in the municipal countryside.

The Borgo retains its ancient gateways and fine examples of civil and sacred architecture: the Palazzetto del Podestà, the Civic tower, Palazzo Lazzarini, in Gothic style, Palazzo Roberti, all dating back to the 14th century; Nada Vicoli Palace, erected in the 17th century and attributed to Vanvitelli; the Shrine of Our Lady of Holy Water, from 1612, the seventeenth-century Church of St. Augustine, which houses a characteristic leather Madonna dating back to the late 13th century; theformer augustinian convent (17th century), in which there is a staircase attributed to Vanvitelli; the Church of St. Bartholomew the Apostle, in the neoclassical style, and the little church of St. Joseph. In the basement of the former Convent of the Augustinian Fathers (18th century) is the International Nativity Museum, where more than 500 nativity scenes of all shapes, sizes, materials and constructed using a variety of techniques are on display. Also not to be missed is the Civic Museum-Pinacoteca, located in the prestigious venue of Palazzo Lazzarini.

The patron saint, St. Bartholomew, is celebrated on August 24. “Festivalbeer Morrovalle,” a festival of beer and music, is held on the last weekend of June; also, “Goblets of Stars” is held in August: wine and cultural offerings, along with the magic of the territories, with exhibition spaces and tastings.

The Staging Area is about 300 m from the Medieval Old Town.
