The Parking Area is about 800 m from the Old Town.

A 10th-century document from the Lucca archives informs that lords of Lombard origin started a village of huts, today’s Capannoli, because the previous settlement on the banks of the Era River suffered frequent flooding. It was with the Della Gherardesca family that the village assumed greater importance because the noble family had a castle built there. From Pisan rule in the 13th century, it passed to the Florentines and later to the Lorraine.

The Villa Baciocchi Museums are well worth a visit. This is a complex that encloses the Zoological Museum, Archaeological Museum and Botanical Park .
