More Info

Monte Castello di Vibio is counted among the most beautiful villages in Italy.

In the heart of the town there is a unique jewel, the Teatro della Concordia: the smallest theater in the world, with 99 seats. Inaugurated in 1808, it was designed in full post-French revolution climate and dedicated to “harmony among peoples”: it was built by some illustrious families of the town to build a place for fun and meetings in Monte Castello.

In the historic center, a faithful reproduction of a medieval fortified village, are worth seeing: the Church of Sant’Illuminata or Santissimo Crocifisso, from the 15th century, where a wooden crucifix from the 15th century is venerated, the crenellated tower of Porta di Maggio, the Church of Saints Philip and James from the 19th century and the chapel of the Madonna delle Carceri from the 16th century.

Also worth a visit are the remains of the Romanesque Abbey of San Lorenzo in Vibiata, the Abbey of Santa Maria in Monte and the 17th century Oratory of Santa Maria alle Rotelle, all around the Borgo.

From the terrace of Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II you can admire a wide and spectacular panorama, from where you can also see the mountains of Lazio and Abruzzo.
