Corinaldo is famous in the Catholic world for being the birthplace of Maria Goretti, who was martyred at the age of 12 in 1902 and canonized in 1950. The city keeps alive the memory of the holy child: in the historic center it is possible to visit the Sanctuary dedicated to her, where there is the relic that Mamma Assunta wanted in this village and where both she and Alessandro Serenelli, the murderer forgiven by Maria, are buried. Goretti.
Not far from the center, the house where the Saint was born has remained intact: a testimony of faith but also of peasant culture, with the original furnishings and tools of work to which numerous images and testimonies on Maria Goretti have been added over time. The village is also a starting point for itineraries of faith: in 40 minutes you arrive at the Hermitage of Fonte Avellana, founded around the year 1000 by San Romualdo in a setting of enchanted woods, and in an hour you are in Assisi and Loreto. .
In about an hour’s drive you can reach Urbino and the spectacular Frasassi caves.
The beach of Senigallia with its fine sand can be reached in just 15 minutes.
On April 25th and in the previous days, the “Feast of Fools” takes place:
the craziest and most colorful party ever, a rich weekend that sees many attractions: the crazy colorful race, competitions of musicians, flag-wavers and archers, street artists and lots of music.
