More Info

Camaiore lies In a wide basin at the foot of the foothills of the Apuan Alps, closed toward the sea by a chain of rolling hills that separate it from the coastal plain. Only 8 km. of convenient roads separate Camaiore from Viareggio and Pietrasanta, 16 km. from Forte dei Marmi, 24 from Lucca. Numerous settlements rise on the heights surrounding the capital city.

After a visit to the Historic Center of Camaiore, a visit to the neighboring Benedictine Abbey (8th-13th centuries) is a must, inside which is preserved a characteristic organ from the 17th century; every summer in the abbey itself an important organ festival is held.

It is also recommended to watch wrought iron work in the Candalla Ferreria, whose mallet is still operated by the thrust of water, visit the ancient Romanesque parish church in the Pieve locality, and walk in the woods of Lucese, where the oldest human settlements in the area have been found.
