Savignano Irpino, a small town in the province of Avellino, located on the border with Puglia, lies between the green hills of Tombola and Calvario, dominating the Cervaro Valley.

A town rich in history, art and traditions, where leisure and relaxation coexist, thanks to quiet walks in the historic center, to admire architectural beauty, and pleasant hikes in pure and silent nature. For its historical and natural beauty, it is included in the circuit of “The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy” and has obtained the recognition of “Sustainable Country.”

The medieval village of Savignano Irpino develops between the Mother Church of St. Nicholas and St. Anne – erected on a sacred building from medieval times, and equipped with a bell tower that arose as a watchtower – and the Guevara Castle, a building of Norman origin named after the Spanish family that ruled these lands for a long time.

Other places of worship of special interest are the Church of Purgatory – dating back to the 19th century, with a bell tower whose clock strikes the Savignano hours – and the Church of Our Lady of Grace, also known as the “Church of the People,” because it was local farmers who wanted it built.

Among the civil buildings of particular interest is Palazzo Orsini, built in 1727 at the behest of Pope Benedict XIII, and designed as a place of welcome for pilgrims passing through the area. Currently the seat of City Hall.

The symbol of the town is, without a doubt, the Angelica Fountain, called by the Savignanesi “Fountain of the Ducks” because of the presence of three cast-iron ducks from whose beaks the cool waters of the Monte Sant’Angelo springs gush forth.

In addition, Savignano is equipped with remarkable sports facilities and equipment: a municipal swimming pool, a soccer field, a five-a-side soccer field, and even tennis courts and a bowling alley.

There are numerous gastronomic delicacies, processed by hand: Ravece DOP oil, dairy products, cured meats, honey and handmade pasta(orecchiette and cicatelli), which has always been an art and tradition.

During the summer months, it is possible to participate in various cultural, religious and gastronomic events, such as “SavignanEstate,” an appointment that during the month of August, for about forty years now, has seen the organization of numerous events, manifestations and concerts, thanks to the collaboration between the Municipal Administration and the Associations of the area.

In the first decade of August, moreover, Savignano hosts the annual “Sagra delle orecchiette” with pasta that, as per tradition, is strictly made by the skilful hands of the town’s women. This-which since 1977 has constituted a historic event that attracts hundreds of devotees even from neighboring provinces-has been joined for the past few years by the “Sagra dei cicatielli e fagiolini,” another typical Savignano dish.

On July 25, 26 and 27, the “Feast of the Patron Saint Anna” is celebrated with a rich program of religious and civil festivities.

Also important is the “Savignanese Carnival” with the traditional parade of floats, masks and musical and dance performances.
