More Info
Castro dei Volsci, located in the province of Frosinone, is a village known as the“balcony of Ciociaria” for its elevated position on the Sacco Valley. The village offers a remarkable panorama and an interesting cultural heritage. The name itself, derived from the Latin“castrum” (encampment) and from the Volsci, a pre-Roman population, indicates its origin as a fortified place.
Beautiful is the path inside the old town, which takes you back in time, a path made up of narrow alleys and stairways, a picturesque walk among the stone houses, steps, stone walls, green corners and a great silence …
Castro dei Volsci is the birthplace of the famous actor and director Nino Manfredi. The Clock Tower houses a permanent exhibition dedicated to his life and career. In addition, some scenes from Vittorio De Sica’s famous film “La Ciociara,” starring Sofia Loren, were filmed right in Castro dei Volsci, strengthening the village’s connection with the history of Italian cinema.
Another special feature of the village are the“Queen Camilla’s Workshops” :a circuit of craft workshops that open their doors every Sunday in the historic center of Castro dei Volsci, with the exception of the period from January 6 to the first Sunday in March. These workshops offer local handicraft products, such as jewelry, lace, ceramics, wooden objects, embroidery, textile artifacts and gastronomic specialties. The name is a tribute to the legendary queen of the Volscians.
Events: the Living Nativity, held during the Christmas season and involving the entire community in a scenic performance. Another significant event is the Carnival of Folklore, dedicated to local arts and crafts.
